Success Stories

Pro Bono: Ballot Access

The Firm regularly volunteers its services to those in need and to deserving charities and public good organizations.

In November of 2024, one of the Firm’s lawyers represented a constellation of non-partisan ballot-access groups in Philadelphia County election court. Minutes away from the polls closing, an unknown individual or group phoned in bomb threats to several polling locations, forcing the temporary closure of at least one.

Our lawyer successfully argued that, given the threat to life safety, at least one of those polling locations should remain open for at least as long as the threat existed. The Elections Court accepted this argument, and as a result, voters were not denied the ability to cast their ballots in an important Presidential and state-wide election.

Complex Misconduct Allegation, Publicly Traded Company

The Special Committee of the Client’s Board of Directors retained one of our lawyers to investigate allegations concerning a former C-suite executive.  Our lawyer conducted a discreet but thorough investigation, validated the concerns, provided a report to the Special Committee, and assisted the Board in the navigation of the reputational and compliance consequences.

Complex Misconduct Investigation, International Charity

A multi-national charity received an anonymous whistleblower complaint of financial misconduct by an executive abroad.  One of our lawyers was retained to manage an investigation and advisory engagement, assessing the allegation and providing advice on management of the findings.  A thorough multi-disciplinary and multi-country allegation, including cyber, forensic accounting, and in-person interviews concluded that the allegation was false, though based on a misunderstanding of other concerning behavior.   Working with internal counsel, international counsel, and an external public relations firm, our lawyer helped the Client navigate a complex situation while maintaining both its obligations under multiple countries’ non-profit and charitable organizations laws and to its commitment to ethical behavior standards.

Board Investigation of Misconduct Allegation Lodged Against Executive Director, Mission-Driven Charity

Having received a concerning allegation about workplace atmosphere by a current Executive Director from a former employee, one of our lawyers was engaged to conduct a thorough, objective examination of the facts by the Board of the charity.  Reviewing documents (both governance and employee conduct standards), electronic mail, and conducting interviews, our lawyer was able to provide the Board with certainty about the Executive Director’s behavior.

Pro Bono Advice for First Amendment Activity

A pro bono Client of the Firm wished to conduct a demonstration to protest recent government actions. Concerned about the risk of arrest and licensure issues in a particularly charged political environment, the Firm provided the Client with guidance on adherence to the law and on managing risks.
